Extreme North Side Drive
Kapalua to Kahakuloa
Maui’s North Side Drive follows Route 30 in Kapalua north, and continues around the north side of the island to Route 340, where it continues to Kahakuloa and on to Kahului. It can be dangerous in spots, but it is a picturesque drive. HERE'S A PHOTO DRIVE: Photos are in driving order, and taken at each mile marker sign where available.
Honolua Bay is the start of this Extreme North Side Drive.
Driving around Honokohau Bay.
There are several pull-off spots on the drive. Use caution walking around.
The winding road has many picturesque views.
Mile marker 16 is the beginning of Route 340.
The road leading to Kahakuloa is very narrow and close to the edge.
Kahakuloa Head in the left photo can be seen from Kahului and beyond. You're now in Kahakuloa.
There are a few friendly residents selling snacks in Kahakuloa Valley.
Driving out of Kahakuloa Valley on the other side isn’t as dangerous as entering it, but use caution driving. Cars are know to speed around corners.
The very winding and rough road continues until mile marker 5, where it then becomes smooth again, and makes its way to Waihe'e.
